FG releases final approved textbooks for 2026–2028

The Federal Ministry of Education has recently unveiled the final list of approved textbooks for Nigerian schools covering the 2026-2028 academic period. This important announcement was released by the ministry's Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, in a statement on Monday. The approved textbooks include materials for Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1, and Senior Secondary School 1.

Each approved textbook in the list carries a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code, along with essential details such as title, author(s), publisher, and year of publication. This identification system will help streamline monitoring, accountability, and control of instructional materials. The ranking exercise was carried out under the guidance of Education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa and the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, with Alausa approving the final list.

The introduction of the Ranking/QR Tracking Code aims to enhance transparency and accountability in textbook selection, procurement, and utilization. The ministry explained that the additional process of generating these codes contributed to the time taken to complete and validate the final lists. The textbook ranking exercise will proceed in phases, with the second phase addressing textbooks for the next four class levels.

The ministry emphasized that the approved list should be the go-to resource for publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies, and other stakeholders when selecting and procuring textbooks for the affected classes. Compliance with the approved list is crucial for ensuring high-quality, curriculum-aligned instructional materials in Nigerian schools.
