POLIS Investigating Hit-And-Run Driver Involved in Deadly Crash in Sepang

PUTRAJAYA: Police are searching for the driver of a lorry believed to have left the scene of a crash that claimed the lives of a motorcyclist and his pillion rider near KM1.5 of the Eastern Link Road, yesterday evening. Sepang Police Chief Norhizam Bahaman stated that the accident, around 5 PM, involved a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle colliding with a lorry whose registration number and type have not yet been determined.

Initial investigations found that the motorcycle was traveling from Dengkil to Putrajaya before allegedly running the rear of the involved lorry, he said. According to eyewitness statements at the scene, the lorry then left the location following the accident, the statement said. Norhizam said the motorcycle rider, a 40-year-old local male working in the government sector, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, his pillion, a 30-year-old local female working at a private university, suffered severe injuries to her right leg and was also pronounced dead at the location. The investigation found that the motorcyclist had a valid driver's license for the period, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 due to dangerous driving resulting in death.

"Police request anyone who witnessed the incident to assist the investigation, particularly in locating the lorry driver," he said.
