FG releases final approved textbooks for 2026–2028

The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled the final list of textbooks to be used in schools across the country for the 2026-2028 academic period. The Ministry of Education, under the direction of Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa and Minister of State for Education Suwaiba Sa'id Ahmad, completed the first phase of the ranking exercise. Approved textbooks for Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1, and Senior Secondary School 1 are now available.

Each approved textbook is assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code, which aids in identification, monitoring, and accountability. The ministry emphasized that the new system strengthens the control and transparency of instructional materials. The Ranking/QR Tracking Code was introduced to enhance monitoring and control of approved materials, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in their selection, procurement, and utilization.

The ranking exercise is being executed in stages, with the second phase targeting additional class levels (Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2, and SS 2) in the future. Publishers, schools, education authorities, procurement agencies, and other stakeholders are urged to utilize the approved list when selecting and procuring textbooks for the respective classes. The ministry urges compliance with the list for the provision and use of textbooks in the specified classes.
