FBI to ShinyHunters: 'We know how to find you'

The FBI’s cyber chief delivered a clear warning to the gang behind a recent hack of the bureau’s jobs portal: "We know how to find you, so turn yourself in." In a video message following the arrest of a 24-year-old Dutch suspect, Assistant Director Brett Leatherman of the FBI's Cyber Division advised the "remaining members" of the data theft and extortion group that "we're confident you've seen or heard things in recent days that the public has not."

Leatherman explained that arrests can change attitudes, and seized infrastructure reveals who's left. He urged the group to contact authorities before it's too late. The FBI did not respond to inquiries about whether they seized any of the cybercriminals' infrastructure or if any of ShinyHunters' members accepted his offer. Following the arrest, Dutch police revealed they found "a large amount of information" on the suspect's laptop, including details about two murders planned abroad.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the US authorities helped with the arrest. The bureau stated they seized electronic devices and are investigating further leads, suggesting more arrests could follow. ShinyHunters had hacked the FBIJobs.gov portal last week, claiming to steal sensitive personal data from current, former, and prospective FBI staff.

However, they later claimed the hack was not financially motivated, stating their goal was to force the FBI to correct false allegations made against them.
