FBI to ShinyHunters: 'We know how to find you'

Brett Leatherman, the assistant director of the FBI's Cyber Division, addressed the cybercriminals behind the recent hack of the FBI's jobs portal in a video message. The message came after the Dutch National Police arrested a 24-year-old suspect, whom the FBI considers "one of the alleged leaders of ShinyHunters."

Leatherman warned the remaining members of ShinyHunters that the agency had the capability to locate them, urging them to come forward while they still had the option. He also expressed confidence that recent events, such as the arrests and seized infrastructure, would expose those still involved in the cybercrime group.

The FBI has not disclosed whether they seized any of the cybercriminals' infrastructure or if any members accepted Leatherman's invitation to reach out. Following the arrest, Dutch police found "a large amount of information" on the suspect's laptop, including details about two alleged murders planned for abroad.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed that the US agency assisted Dutch investigators in apprehending the 24-year-old suspect. The bureau further stated that more arrests were possible as they continued to investigate leads. ShinyHunters' cyberattack on the FBIjobs.gov portal was motivated by a desire to correct what the group claimed were false allegations made by the FBI, rather than financial gain.

The spokesperson for ShinyHunters emphasized that the hack aimed to protect their business reputation and maintain their operations, stating that they were simply competing in a cutthroat world.
