You’ve spent 33 years trying to become Nigeria’s President –Fani-Kayode mocks Atiku

Nigerian High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his long-standing ambition to become Nigeria's President. In his article titled 'The Seventh Bid of Waziri', Fani-Kayode highlighted that Atiku has been striving for the presidency for a staggering 33 years. The former Minister of Aviation further pointed out Atiku's political journey and his ongoing conflict with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to Fani-Kayode, Atiku is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and his running mate for the 2027 elections is Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation. Fani-Kayode noted that Atiku's presidential quest began in 1993 when he contested the Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential primary.

He also mentioned that Atiku participated in the 2007 election under the Action Congress, joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP) primary in 2011, contested the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary in 2015, and served as the PDP's candidate in both 2019 and 2023.

The Nigerian ambassador to South Africa remarked on Atiku's persistence, stating that Waziri Atiku Abubakar has made no less than six attempts to become President of the nation over the past three decades. In a country of 230 million people, it is remarkable that one individual has been attempting the same goal for 33 years and is now making his seventh bid.
