Kenya: Nairobi Motorists Face More Delays As Eldoret Road Closure Extended

Nairobi motorists will face extended delays as the closure of Eldoret Road due to a vehicular bridge construction project remains in effect until December 30, 2026, according to the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA). The authority announced the extension of the closure from its initially scheduled reopening date of September 18, citing unforeseen logistical and site-related challenges that included delays in the delivery of crucial construction materials and equipment.

The affected section of Eldoret Road, which runs near the Nairobi River, is expected to remain closed until 6pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2026. KURA urged motorists to adhere to the alternative traffic arrangements already in place and follow directions from traffic police officers and traffic marshals to navigate around the affected area. The traffic plan also includes a temporary pedestrian bridge for pedestrian movement.

KURA expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, stating their commitment to completing the bridge within the revised timeline while ensuring safety and quality standards. The extended closure is expected to impact motorists traveling towards Eastleigh, Uhuru Estate, and Jogoo Road. KURA advised road users to plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time due to the ongoing construction works. The current traffic arrangements will remain in force throughout the extended closure period.
