Ukraine makes local gains on Pokrovsk front despite sustained Russian attacks

Ukraine's 40th Separate Marine Brigade reported significant gains on the Pokrovsk front on September 27, clearing 5 square kilometers and capturing two Russian soldiers, according to the brigade. Despite persistent Russian attacks, the Ukrainian forces continued their local operations in the heavily contested area. The brigade's operation, dubbed "Audit," was carried out by the sniper company, reconnaissance company, and the 1st Marine Battalion.

The marines stated that they eliminated the remaining Russian troops in the cleared area and released video footage of the operation. The Pokrovsk front has been under sustained pressure for years, with the General Staff reporting 20 to 29 Russian attacks per day between September 22 and 27. Russian troops infiltrate the front in small groups, often hiding in shelters until they can advance further.

The brigade's operation halted the infiltration attempt, preventing Russian troops from advancing further west. Russia launched its offensive toward Pokrovsk in February 2024, seizing control of the area and Myrnohrad. However, the ISW noted in February 2026 that Russia had failed to capitalize on the seizure and had not made significant advances west of Pokrovsk since December 2025.
