Russian drone hits Kyiv scientific centre near embassies

On September 28, a Russian drone attacked the Yahodyn border crossing in Ukraine's Volyn Oblast, located just a few hundred meters from the Polish border, according to Ukrainian and Polish officials. Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced that the drone hit Ukrainian territory approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) from the Dorohusk crossing, and did not breach Polish airspace. Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that Poland's air defense systems and aircraft were prepared to respond.

According to sources within Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, the drone struck several hundred meters away from the border, and did not cause any damage to the Yahodyn crossing itself. Ukrainian monitoring channels reported that Russian drones were moving towards the Yahodyn border crossing during the afternoon of September 28. This attack is part of a series of recent Russian strikes near the Polish border.

On September 17, a Russian drone crashed near a gas station in Yahodyn. Four days prior, on September 13, a Russian drone struck a truck about 800 meters (0.5 miles) from the Polish border near the same crossing. Additionally, Russian forces targeted a passenger train traveling to Warsaw that day, damaging its locomotive.

As the war in Ukraine continues, Poland has been facing an increasing number of incursions by Russian munitions into its airspace. In response, the Polish government has decided to change its procedures for engaging objects that enter from the direction of Russia. Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk announced on September 28 that Poland will now adopt positive identification procedures, allowing radar readings alone to authorize the shooting down of the object, rather than requiring pilots to visually confirm a target. This change was reported by the Polish broadcaster RMF24.
