Taylor Swift lands top trophy at MTV’s Video Music Awards

Los Angeles, September 27 - Taylor Swift claimed the most prestigious award at MTV's Video Music Awards, winning Video of the Year for her showgirl-themed song "The Fate of Ophelia," which she honored to the late Dolly Parton. Lisa Richwine reported on the event.

The showgirl-inspired single was the lead track from Swift's 2025 album, "The Life of a Showgirl." Swift expressed her gratitude towards Parton, calling her "the ultimate showgirl," acknowledging their shared planet during her acceptance speech in downtown Los Angeles.

Notably, Parton, a renowned country singer, songwriter, and businesswoman, had passed away in August at the age of 80. Earlier in the ceremony, Swift received the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, having written and directed 18 music videos throughout her career, including for her latest single "Patient Zero," which she debuted during the event.

Swift credited her fans for their support, emphasizing that it made the process enjoyable and meaningful. She added, "You actually care about what we're making." The VMAs aired live on CBS and MTV, as well as streamed on Paramount+ PSKY.O. In other categories, Madonna was named Artist of the Year, with her duet "Bring Your Love" receiving the Best Collaboration award.

Madonna lauded Carpenter for their complementary work styles, describing their collaboration as "wonderful." Lisa Blackpink's Lisa secured the VMA for Best Pop Video for her solo track "Dream," expressing her appreciation for her fanbase, the "Lillies," as she accepted the Moon Person trophy.
