Taylor Swift lands top trophy at MTV’s Video Music Awards

Taylor Swift claimed the prestigious Video Music Award for Video of the Year at MTV's ceremony on Sunday, honoring her showgirl-themed video "The Fate of Ophelia." The track serves as the lead single from her 2025 album, "The Life of a Showgirl." Expressing her gratitude on stage, Swift paid tribute to the late Dolly Parton, describing her as "the ultimate showgirl."

Earlier, Swift was recognized for her achievements as the inaugural recipient of the MTV VMA Artist Director Honors. She has penned and directed 18 music videos throughout her career, including "Patient Zero," which premiered during the event. Reflecting on her craft, Swift shared her enthusiasm for the process: "The main reason I love writing and directing music videos so much is because you, the fans, make it so much, so much fun. You actually care about what we're making."

The VMAs, broadcast live on CBS and MTV and streamed on Paramount+, determined the winners based on fan votes in the top categories. Notable winners included Madonna, who was named Artist of the Year with her duet "Bring Your Love" as the Best Collaboration. Madonna praised her collaboration with Carpenter, noting their complementary work styles: "When I show up late, she shows up early."

In another category, Lisa of the K-pop group Blackpink secured the VMA for Best Pop Video for her solo performance "Dream." She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her fans, affectionately known as Lillies, acknowledging their unwavering support: "I wouldn't be here without you guys." Lisa accepted the VMA Moon Person trophy, her face adorned with tears as she thanked her adoring fans.
