Sindh Announces 50,000 Free Electric Scooters for Women

Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon announced plans to provide 50,000 free electric scooters to women across the Sindh province. At a ceremony in Mirpurkhas, Memon stated that the Sindh government would continue to expand the initiative to enhance women’s mobility and access to transportation. The scooters will be distributed to women who successfully complete the required training and pass their driving tests.

Memon emphasized that the program aimed to eventually reach eligible women in every district of Sindh. He also disclosed that the government was distributing the scooters without any political or other form of discrimination, and eligibility was based solely on driving skills. Memon introduced an additional measure of launching pink taxis for women as part of the efforts to improve mobility and support women’s participation in economic and social activities.

He mentioned that the number of women obtaining driving licenses had increased considerably, as more families now permit women to ride motorcycles. Memon cautioned that the scooters issued under the program are exclusively for women and stated that authorities would take action if men were found using them.
