Penganggur Ng Peng Kim, 43, has been sentenced to seven years and three months in prison by the George Town Sessions Court after pleading guilty to attempted robbery using a knuckle duster, last Sunday. Judge Irwan Suainbon handed down the sentence to Ng Peng Kim, 43, and ordered it to begin immediately. The accused was charged with attempting to commit robbery intentionally causing injury to a male at a watch repair shop on Anson Road in the northeastern region of Penang on September 21.

The charges were brought under Section 394 of the Penal Code, carrying a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a fine or fine. Ng was accused of attempting to commit the robbery when the victim was present at the premises with a knuckle duster, causing injury to the victim's right hand. Earlier, Deputy Prosecutor Lee Jun Keong had requested a heavy sentence to send a message to the accused, taking into account the victim's injury and warning the community that gun crime must be eradicated.

The accused, who was not represented by a lawyer, requested a lighter sentence on the grounds that he had two children aged 22 and apologized for his mistake. In separate cases, a sushi restaurant chef pleaded not guilty to four charges of criminal breach of trust involving RM19,361 cash in February and July last year. For the first charge, Ong Kah Meng, 45, was accused of criminal breach of trust, amounting to RM9,603 cash at a restaurant in Gat Lebuh Acheh on July 24.

He was charged under Section 406 of the Penal Code, which provided for imprisonment not exceeding 10 years and a fine or fine, if found guilty. Lee offered a RM15,000 bond with a co-defendant and an additional condition of surrendering his passport to the court, but the accused requested the bond to be reduced due to having dependent parents.

Irwan subsequently allowed the accused to post RM8,000 with a co-defendant as a surety instead of the additional conditions requested by the prosecution. In the second trial, Ong was charged with the same offenses involving RM1,601 cash, RM7,057 cash, and RM1,100 cash between February 12 and July 23. Deputy Prosecutor Anuarul Hakim Abdul Muen offered a RM45,000 bond for the three charges and additional conditions that the accused must report to the nearest police station monthly and surrender his passport to the court until the case is closed.

Judge Juraidah Abbas then set a RM15,000 bond for the three charges with a co-defendant, reducing all additional conditions. All cases were finalized on October 27 for the release of lawyers and documents.
