Fahmi: Dr Hasmah to be laid to rest beside Endon Mahmood at National Mausoleum

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — The remains of the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, the wife of Malaysia's fifth Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, will be interred beside the tomb of Tun Endon Mahmood at the National Mausoleum in Putrajaya, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil announced after paying his respects at Dr Hasmah's residence in Seri Kembangan.

Her remains were consecrated at As-Syarif Mosque in Seri Kembangan prior to their journey to the National Mausoleum for burial later in the day. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealed that Dr Hasmah's final conversation with his wife, Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis, was profoundly spiritual, revolving around faith and the afterlife.

"My wife told me that she (Dr Siti Hasmah) spoke a lot about God. She spoke a lot about the hereafter. She spoke a lot about the Assembly Place (Padang Mahsyar), as if she already knew that she would be leaving forever," Zahid recounted. Dr Hasmah passed away this morning at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur at the age of 100.
