Paedophile sentenced after trading vapes for child abuse material

Dean Jason Milley, a 53-year-old man, has been sentenced to jail for his involvement in exchanging child abuse material for vapes. The Latrobe Valley County Court heard that Milley contacted teenage boys online, offering money and vaping products in exchange for explicit images and videos. The court found that Milley purchased vapes from Alibaba and sent them to a 12-year-old boy in Western Australia, who claimed to be 14 years old.

In return, the boy sent Milley child abuse material, which was highly sexualised and depraved in nature. Judge Diana Manova stated that Milley had a history of sexual abuse dating back to 1994 and was involved in conversion therapy aimed at changing his homosexual behavior. Milley's past offenses include sexual penetration of children under the age of 10 and 16, possession of child abuse material, and offences against a nine-year-old boy with a disability.

Despite being diagnosed with pedophilic and hebephilic disorders in 2018, Milley has repeatedly re-offended upon release, demonstrating an inability or unwillingness to control his actions. He was sentenced to a total of five-and-a-half years in prison, with 15 months already served in pre-sentence detention. Milley will become eligible for parole in three years.
