Mamata Banerjee Party Symbol Case Live: Supreme Court to hear plea against ECI’s freeze order

On Monday, the Supreme Court will consider Mamata Banerjee's appeal against the Election Commission of India's (ECI) interim order to freeze the name 'All India Trinamool Congress' and its election symbol 'Flowers & Grass'. The dispute arises from a factional conflict within the party. The Supreme Court bench featuring Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana will deliberate on the case.

Earlier, the ECI had requested the court to ascertain the timeline for resolving the disagreement between the two factions of the Trinamool Congress. On September 18, the ECI froze the party's name and symbol, instructing the factions to choose new identifications until the issue is settled. The Banerjee-led faction is now campaigning under the football symbol, while the opposition faction uses an envelope symbol.
