High Court rejects Ismanira’s appeal, five‑year jail for neglect in Zayn Rayyan case upheld

Shah Alam, September 28 — The High Court has rejected Ismanira Abdul Manaf's appeal to overturn her five-year jail sentence for neglecting her six-year-old son, Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin, who sustained physical injuries three years ago. Judge Noor Hisham Ismail upheld the sentence, stating that there was no error in the judge's decision.

The High Court also dismissed the prosecution's request for a harsher sentence, deeming it neither inadequate nor excessive. Ismanira, 31, remains incarcerated as ordered by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court last year. The court affirmed that neglect, as defined by the Child Act 2001, involves the failure of a person with care for a child to provide necessary attention, supervision, or care based on the child's age, abilities, and environment.
