Bangkok floods affect 700,000 people as eight districts remain flooded

Bangkok has been experiencing severe flooding, impacting approximately 700,000 people across 42 districts, with eight districts still submerged, according to Bangkok Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej. Rainfall is expected to subside, with decreasing rainfall probabilities in Bangkok. However, water levels in critical canals remain high, causing overflow.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is using pumps to drain water and monitoring inflows from northern areas. Eight districts—Lat Krabang, Bang Kapi, Min Buri, Saphan Sung, Suan Luang, Bueng Kum, Khlong Sam Wa, and Sai Mai—are currently flooded. The BMA has enlisted a special task force to provide medical assistance to vulnerable residents, with call volumes to the emergency hotline nearly doubling.

Hospitals in the eastern part of the city have been converted into shelters for bedridden patients. Rescue operations have faced challenges due to flooded roads, with multiple vehicles experiencing engine failures. The BMA has requested additional high-clearance vehicles from the military. Food distribution is a pressing concern, with Lat Krabang requiring 20,000 meal boxes per meal.

The BMA is considering special compensation for condominium residents and urging residents to check for electrical issues due to the increased risk of short circuits. Residents can donate supplies to designated locations, and the BMA has high-clearance fire engines available for emergency response.
