[Asian Games] S. Korea settles for pistol team silver following shooter's miscue

South Korea's pistol shooting team team secured silver at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday after its star athlete made a costly mistake. The athletes, Yang Ji-in, Oh Ye-jin, and Bong Seo-rin, were close to claiming the team championship when the day began at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Toyota, roughly 60 kilometers east of the main host city, Nagoya.

Yang, who had won an individual medal in this event at the 2024 Olympics, was also in pursuit of another individual accolade. In the team's individual qualification round, scores for each shooter on the team were combined to determine the standings. The round was divided into two stages: precision and rapid fire, each with 30 shots split into six series of five shots each.

In the precision stage, participants had five minutes to complete each six-shot series. The rapid fire stage had a three-second limit for each shot. During her rapid fire phase, Yang failed to trigger her firearm on the 21st shot within the three-second window, resulting in a miss, or zero points. With one more group of 12 shooters still to be shot, South Korea settled for silver.
