Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat Seeks FIR Over Alleged Assault, Vandalism At SRFTI Event In Kolkata | Video

The Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP) has filed a complaint with the Kolkata police seeking the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) following an alleged incident of assault and vandalism during their organizational program at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) on September 27, 2026. The program, which was attended by around 250 members, was scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm.

According to the complaint letter, ABGP had booked the program hall at SRFTI, paying Rs 32,700 for the hall and additional fees for lunch. However, around 10 minutes after the program began, approximately 30-40 individuals carrying banners of the SRFTI Student Union, including one with the slogan "Resist Hindutva Fascism," forcibly entered the hall.

They disrupted the event by raising anti-religious slogans and began vandalizing and removing photographs of Bharat Mata and Swami Vivekananda, as well as smashing mementoes and idols of Maa Durga. The ABGP also alleged that they vandalized and kicked out the ABGP banner.

When members of the ABGP attempted to remove the disruptive group, they discovered that the main entry-exit door had been locked from outside. Around 100 people, including some elderly individuals, gathered outside the hall in response. A clash ensued between the students and ABGP members, resulting in injuries to several SRFTI students. The ABGP claimed that female and elderly members were also physically harassed and misbehaved with, and some were removed from the SRFTI premises.

Additionally, the complaint alleged that some ABGP members were held in vehicles in the parking area, including a bus, from 2:15 pm to 7:30 pm without access to drinking water or toilets. The organization stated that they had video and photographic evidence of the incident and the involvement of the accused individuals.
