Zelensky Says Putin Keeps Finding Excuses to Continue the War

President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concern on September 26 that Russia shows no intention of ending its war in Ukraine, accusing Russian President Vladimir Putin of constantly inventing reasons to avoid negotiations. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported that Russian strikes since Friday had resulted in at least 10 deaths, including a child.

During his recent meeting with US President Donald Trump, President Zelensky said that Washington shares Ukraine's assessment of the situation. Zelensky emphasized that Russia must choose to end the war rather than continue spending on destruction. Ukraine, in collaboration with the US, Europe, Canada, Japan and other partners, is striving to change the course of the war.

Zelensky urged the implementation of the Lindsey Graham Act, a US sanctions legislation targeting Russia, and other pressure mechanisms to intensify. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on September 22, Trump indicated that the US was prepared to impose tariffs of up to 100% on Russian energy buyers. Zelensky also advocated for the use of the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, signed by Trump on September 18.

The Russian strikes continued throughout the day, causing casualties in several Ukrainian regions. Ukrainian officials condemned the Russian barrage and warned against growing numbness to the attacks.
