You’ve spent 33 years trying to become Nigeria’s President – Fani-Kayode mocks Atiku

Nigerian High Commissioner Femi Fani-Kayode has ridiculed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his persistent efforts to become the country's President. In a piece titled 'The Seventh Bid of Waziri', Fani-Kayode pointed out that Atiku has spent an impressive 33 years attempting to occupy the nation's highest office. The ex-Aviation Minister further highlighted the drama surrounding Atiku's political journey, including his rivalry with a previous President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Atiku is currently the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with Rotimi Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, as his running mate for the 2027 elections. Fani-Kayode noted that Atiku's quest began in 1993 when he contested the presidential primary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). He went on to run in subsequent elections under different parties, with his latest attempt being his seventh.

Fani-Kayode expressed surprise at Atiku's persistence, remarking that in a nation of 230 million people, only one individual has been attempting to become President for 33 years, failing each time, and now seeking the chance once more.
