We feared social media would take our jobs — Jide Kosoko

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko shared his recollections of the initial apprehension among older actors in the entertainment industry about the rise of social media. In an interview with Sunday Scoop, he recalled the fears that gripped many, questioning whether the new technology would displace them entirely from the industry. "When social media came, we were afraid. Is this not going to kick us out of business? Is this not going to kick us out completely?" Kosoko recalled asking.

However, Kosoko expressed gratitude that his younger colleagues were more adept in computer usage, allowing the older actors to leverage the social media platform to their advantage. "We eventually used it to our advantage, so we have to thank God for that," he concluded.

Kosoko's perspective on the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the industry, however, differed. He admitted that he had yet to fully grasp the workings of AI. "When I started seeing AI, I still don't understand it till now," he admitted. His remarks illustrate the ongoing dynamic between Nollywood's senior actors and the rapidly advancing technology, from the early uncertainty regarding social media to the increasing integration of AI in the creative sector.
