We feared social media would take our jobs — Jide Kosoko

Veteran Nigerian actor Jide Kosoko has shared his recollections of how social media initially raised concerns among older practitioners in the entertainment industry. In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Kosoko expressed his apprehensions about the technology potentially displacing seasoned performers. He remarked, “When social media came, we were afraid.

Is this not going to kick us out of business? Is this not going to kick us out completely? But, I must say that eventually, we were able to scale through by virtue of the fact that most of our junior colleagues are computer literate, unlike people like us.” Kosoko attributed his industry's survival to his younger counterparts who were more adept with technology.

Despite his experiences with social media, Kosoko admitted that he was still grappling with the concept of artificial intelligence (AI). When asked about his understanding of AI, he confessed, “When I started seeing AI, I still don’t understand it till now.” His comments shed light on the shifting dynamics between Nollywood's seasoned actors and the rapid advancements in technology, from the apprehension surrounding social media to the increasing integration of AI in the creative sector.
