Uttar Pradesh: 24-Hour Power Control Room Activated As Heavy Rain Triggers 716 Feeder, 173 Substation Faults

Lucknow, September 26, 2026: In response to heavy rain across Uttar Pradesh, the state's government has activated a 24-hour Power Control Room to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Ranveer Prasad, Principal Secretary (Energy) and Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation, has directed officials of distribution corporations like LESA to monitor the power system continuously and rectify local faults as quickly as possible.

Field gangs have been put on alert to reach the site immediately if power supply is disrupted. The public is urged to report any incidents or breakdowns on the 1912 helpline. Safety standards are strictly enforced to prevent electrical accidents, and maintenance work is conducted using appropriate safety equipment. Most power outages are caused by fallen trees or branches.

A 24-hour Control Room has been set up at Shakti Bhawan, where six Superintending Engineers are coordinating with DISCOMs to track local faults, field gangs' availability, material supply, and power disconnection lasting over 12 hours. Despite the decline in power demand due to heavy rain, the state has avoided load shedding, and surplus electricity is sold on the Power Exchange.
