Uttar Pradesh Floods: 10 Killed, 17 Injured As Heavy Rain Batters 63 Districts; Flash Flood Risk Rises

Lucknow, September 26 - Ten lives were lost and 17 individuals suffered injuries in rain-related incidents across Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, as 63 districts experienced above-normal rainfall, and some regions faced a risk of flash floods, officials reported. The state received 19 times its average rainfall in the past 24 hours, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds causing damage to crops and homes.

Five people died due to mud-wall collapses, while five others succumbed to tree uprooting by strong winds and heavy rain, according to police. Casualties were reported from Lakhimpur Kheri, Amethi, Barabanki, and Gorakhpur districts. In Lucknow, three family members were injured when a mud house wall collapsed in Chaina village; they were rescued and received medical care.

Scattered rainfall in Gorakhpur district reached 70-80 mm within an hour. In Kannauj, 20 makeshift homes were damaged due to persistent rain; no fatalities were reported in the district. Tree falls caused deaths in Gorakhpur, with Subhash (55), Gyanmati Devi (45), and Kishan Prajapati (13) killed when an old sal tree fell on their hut.

Two others, Rammilan and Sirjavati, sustained serious injuries. In Gagaha, a mahua tree fell on Bhim Kumar Vishwakarma, killing him instantly near Siyar Mod. An 80-year-old tree fell on a house in Kali Mandir Gali, injuring four people in Jatepur Dakshini locality. Relief and restoration efforts continued as waterlogging disrupted daily life, with roads becoming waterlogged and travel becoming difficult in several areas.
