Trump rejects proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran says it is awaiting definitive US position

On Saturday, US President Donald Trump declined to endorse Iran's latest proposal aimed at reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced on Thursday that Tehran had submitted a fresh offer to the United States. In return for Iran complying with several longstanding demands, the crucial waterway would be reopened, and talks between the two nations could resume.

However, President Trump firmly rejected the proposal, stating it was "unacceptable." Iran's top diplomat, Abbas Araghchi, confirmed that Iran was awaiting an official response from the US before making any decision. The proposal, if accepted by the US, would have seen the Strait reopen immediately and normal maritime passage restored within seven days, contingent on Iran's conditions being met.
