Iran Guards claim capture of US underwater drone in Strait of Hormuz

Tehran, September 27 - The Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced today that they had captured an American unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. In a statement released through state TV, the Guards claimed their naval forces successfully carried out a "coordinated, complex operation involving intelligence oversight and electronic warfare" to seize the advanced UUV.

The Guards identified the model as a Remus 600 autonomous underwater vehicle, which they alleged was being used by the US military for "espionage purposes" in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the statement, the captured drone is now under the control of the Guards' specialists for data recovery. Earlier this month, the Guard's had also claimed to have captured another US submarine drone in the strait, which was reportedly critical for oil and gas trade in the region prior to the start of the Middle East war in late February.

The conflict has led to a blockade of the Hormuz strait by Iran, while the United States has countered with a blockade of Iranian ports.
