The US-China relationship has stabilised but on Beijing’s terms

China offered support for a return to the US-Iran deal, but no breakthrough was made. The summit produced little in the way of concrete agreements, but it provided political cover for both sides. The event aimed to lower the chances of abrupt escalation while US politics grapples with the concessions made.

Soft power, in the form of historical props and cultural exchanges, helped create a sense of inevitability about the relationship. Overall, the visit indicates a stabilised relationship on China's terms, with Washington gaining temporary relief from tariffs and China securing recognition of its strategic interests.
