Texas State football cruises to win over Incarnate Word as it prepares for Pac-12 play

SAN MARCOS - Texas State football secured a commanding 63-10 victory over Incarnate Word on Saturday, extending their non-conference winning streak to two games. The Bobcats (3-1) dominated from the start, leading by 21 points in the first quarter and maintaining their edge throughout. Quarterback Brad Jackson contributed 244 passing yards and five touchdowns before being replaced in the third quarter, alongside the majority of the starters.

Texas State established their game plan early, scoring 28 points before the two-minute warning. Running back Torrance Burgess Jr. powered through with 140 rushing yards and a touchdown on nine carries during the first half. Incarnate Word managed to score on their opening drive with a 32-yard pass to wide receiver Declan Williams, but Texas State's defense proved resilient, registering five tackles for losses and two sacks in the first half while containing 23 rushing yards.

As the fourth quarter approached, Texas State's younger players stepped up, with former four-star recruit La Keyleon Graves making his first-career catch on a screen route for a 49-yard touchdown. Freshman running back Juntavious Harris also found the end zone on a 45-yard run later in the quarter. Despite the intense pressure, UIW quarterback Emmett Brown managed to throw for 247 yards, one touchdown, and an interception on 25-of-45 passes.

The Bobcats head into their first Pac-12 game next week against San Diego State, buoyed by their strong performance against Incarnate Word, as they seek to maintain their College Football Playoff aspirations.
