Tanzania seeks stronger Qatar ties, invites investment

Tanzania is eager to strengthen its economic ties with Qatar, particularly by fostering greater private sector collaboration and investment, Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba announced on Sunday. Nchemba made this statement during a meeting with a delegation from the Qatar Chamber, presided over by Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari, the First Vice Chairman of Qatar Chamber.

The delegation also included Shaheen bin Lahdan Al Mohannadi, a member of the Qatar Chamber Board, as well as HE Fahad bin Rashid Al Muraikhi, the Ambassador of Qatar to Tanzania, and HE Habibu Awesi Mohamed, the Ambassador of Tanzania to Qatar.

During the meeting, held at the Marsa Mallaz Kempinski Hotel, Nchemba emphasized the vast potential for enhancing bilateral economic cooperation, especially in the areas of food security, energy, and infrastructure. He highlighted various investment opportunities available in Tanzania, making it clear that there are significant prospects for growth.

Bin Twar expressed his appreciation for Prime Minister Nchemba's visit, stating that it would contribute to deepening Qatar-Tanzania cooperation, particularly between the private sectors. He also showcased Tanzania's natural resources and investment potential, urging Qatari investors to consider exploring the market. Bin Twar suggested the possibility of a Qatari business delegation visiting Tanzania to investigate opportunities in person.

Ebrahim Mafuru, the Director General of the Tanzania Trade and Investment Authority, provided an overview of Tanzania's economy, bilateral trade relations, and investment opportunities. He pointed out sectors that are open to engagement from Qatari investors, including agriculture and food processing, energy and LNG, minerals, livestock, the blue economy, tourism and hospitality, and infrastructure, such as ports, logistics, and special economic zones.
