Stefan Cleveland’s first MLS shutout helps Sporting KC stun Dynamo 2-0

In a thrilling match on Saturday night, Sporting Kansas City secured a 2-0 victory over Houston Dynamo, thanks to a stellar performance from Stefan Cleveland. André Luiz and Calvin Harris both scored first-half goals, setting the stage for Cleveland's impressive shutout. Cleveland saved a whopping five shots during his first season with Sporting KC, marking his first-ever shutout in 17 starts.

The match commenced with Stephen Afrifa setting up Luiz for his fourth goal in his first five MLS appearances, giving Sporting KC a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. Harris scored his fourth goal of the season in the 45th minute, extending Sporting KC's lead to 2-0. Midfielder Héctor Herrera received a red card during stoppage time for his second yellow in the first half, leading to Houston playing a man down for the remainder of the match.

Jonathan Bond made two crucial saves for Houston, who began the day second in the Western Conference, but now sit at 8-3-3 at home. Sporting KC, on the other hand, improved to 3-10-0 on the road, boasting a record of 2-2-0 in September. The Dynamo had previously defeated Sporting Kansas City 2-0 in Kansas City earlier in the month.
