Signalling fault throws KTM Komuter and ETS schedules off track, delays top five hours

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 27 — A signalling system malfunction between Kalumpang and Kuala Kubu Bharu yesterday caused KTM Komuter and ETS services to be delayed by up to five hours. KTMB announced that the longest KTM Komuter delay was Train No. 2389, which experienced a 230-minute delay, while ETS service EP9138 from KL Sentral to Butterworth suffered a 305-minute delay.

Initial investigations revealed that a damaged system component had caused the signalling disruption, though the exact cause is still under investigation. The incident had a ripple effect on the movement and schedules of other trains traveling through the sector, particularly those heading to and from the north. KTMB also informed passengers that scheduled Rawang-Ipoh Double Tracking upgrade works were taking place along the affected route, further complicating train movements and causing additional delays.

Repair works were completed at 5.15am today, and the first Komuter train from Tanjung Malim departed at 5.45am. Despite the fault being resolved, some KTM Komuter and ETS services are still experiencing delays of up to 30 minutes from their original schedules due to the signalling issue along the Batang Kali route. KTMB expressed regret to affected passengers and promised full fare refunds to those who chose not to continue their journey because of the disruption, subject to standard procedures.
