Saudi Arabia plays key role in global peace and security, says UN spokesperson

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric commended Saudi Arabia’s key role in global peace and security, praising its political and humanitarian initiatives. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia plays a significant role in regional and global security and peace, supporting political solutions to regional conflicts. Dujarric welcomed Saudi Arabia’s leadership with France and other partners in organizing an international conference for a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution.

He stressed the importance of turning this international support into practical actions, such as establishing a credible political process to end the occupation and create a Palestinian state. Dujarric highlighted the need to halt settlement expansion, reverse annexation measures, and strengthen Palestinian institutions to preserve the viability of a Palestinian state, as mandated by international law and previous agreements.

He also commended Saudi Arabia’s role in hosting major UN and international events, including conferences on desertification, internet governance, industrial development, and tourism. Dujarric pointed to Saudi Arabia’s commitment to multilateral platforms, such as the Digital Cooperation Organization and the World Water Organization, and its position as a top donor, providing nearly $5.47 billion in bilateral aid in 2023.

The UN spokesperson expressed hope that this partnership would lead to tangible results in de-escalation, dialogue, peace, and development.
