‘Any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco,’ King Mohammed VI says

RABAT — Morocco's King Mohammed VI has firmly declared that any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco, following a series of Houthi assaults against the Kingdom and attempts to target the holiest cities of Makkah and Madinah. In messages to Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, Mohammed VI reaffirmed his country's unwavering support for Saudi Arabia's security, sovereignty, and stability.

The Moroccan monarch condemned attacks on civilian and economic facilities, critical infrastructure, cities, and populated areas within Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that targeting the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah has further heightened Morocco's condemnation. He stated that during this critical time, historical responsibility, religious values, and strategic considerations necessitate unity in defending rights, sovereignty, security, and the holy sites of the Muslim world.

King Mohammed VI denounced the attacks as not only assaults on Saudi Arabia, its people, and pilgrims but also as affronts to the sentiments of over 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide. He held the Houthis and their backers, financiers, and armed supporters accountable for these "criminal acts." The king stressed that Saudi Arabia's and other Gulf Cooperation Council states' security and stability are inseparable from Morocco's own, asserting that any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco.

He affirmed Morocco's continued support for Saudi Arabia in combating threats from armed groups and regional powers backing them, warning that such actions jeopardize regional security and vital maritime corridors vital to the global economy and international navigation. King Mohammed VI further contended that the ongoing attacks violate international law and relevant UN resolutions, citing UN Security Council Resolutions 2216 of 2015 and 2722 of 2024, and called for accountability in response to these violations.
