Rouen and Dieppe: French Property Location Guide

Sarah Daly explores Rouen, Normandy's capital city, and the charming port town of Dieppe. The first time the writer visited Rouen, they were 19 years old and on their way home from Dieppe after a long Interrailing trip. Rouen's most famous 19-year-old visitor, Joan of Arc, was burnt at the stake there in 1431. Visitors can now see her final resting place at La Place du Vieux-Marché and at the Historial Jeanne d'Arc, where her story is told.

Dieppe's history is intertwined with England's, and it has seen a lot of architectural changes over the years, including a massive bombing during World War II. The city has since been rebuilt and retains much of its 18th-century charm. Both cities are rich in culture, with museums and historic buildings that attract visitors. Property prices in Rouen vary depending on the location, with historic properties being particularly popular among English-speakers.

Dieppe, with its 30,000 inhabitants, is a port town situated along the Alabaster Coast, known for its maritime history and beautiful seafront.
