Guiness World Record: Nollywood film ‘Black Market’ debuts with 51,000 viewers in Lagos

Nollywood crime thriller "Black Market" has claimed a Guinness World Record for the highest single venue film screening attendance, with 51,000 people flocking to Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos. The record was set during a mass screening on Saturday, September 26, 2026, surpassing the previous record of 43,624 people, held during the 2015 screening of Filipino biopic Felix Manalo at the Philippine Arena.

The filmmakers announced their achievement on social media following Guinness World Records' confirmation. The official record considers only attendees who completed the screening, not the total people present at the event, which reportedly saw around 64,000 people according to Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat. The record-breaking screening featured notable figures such as Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Toke Benson, and actors including Lateef Adedimeji, Kunle Remi, Stan Nze, Linda Ejiofor, Gabriel Afolayan, and Kunle Afolayan.

The "Black Market" feat is not the first record for Nigerians, as celebrity chef Hilda Baci secured her third Guinness World Record title in January 2026 for the world's largest serving of rice.
