Players, coaches give their flowers to Nneka Ogwumike

As the Los Angeles Sparks prepare for their upcoming retirement, players and coaches have come together to honor former star Nneka Ogwumike. Ogwumike announced her retirement in August following an interview with Taylor Rooks on the Boardroom.

Cameron Brink, a Sparks teammate, described Ogwumike as a person who brings wisdom, calmness, and a presence that she will always cherish. Ariel Atkins echoed similar sentiments, stating that Ogwumike is consistent and one of the best teammates she has had.

Rae Burrell reminisced about her rookie season with Ogwumike, praising her as a professional, leader, and someone who has paved the way for the team. Erica Wheeler expressed her emotional attachment to Ogwumike, calling her a blessing and an honor to have played alongside her.

Sparks coach Lynne Roberts highlighted Ogwumike's presence, reasoning, and ability to make teammates better. Tiony Morgan emphasized Ogwumike's kindness, wisdom, and helpfulness in her development. Ji-hyun Park, speaking through a translator, stated that Ogwumike has given young players valuable advice and inspiration.

Chance Gray, a fellow teammate, praised Ogwumike for being a great mentor and role model, as well as a professional who prepared herself meticulously. Aaliyah Nye recalled a memorable moment from Draft Night when Ogwumike gave her encouraging words as she watched her make her debut.
