Oil palm fruit spill in Semporna sparks three‑vehicle crash, six injured including one seriously

Semporna experienced a chaotic three-vehicle collision on September 27, resulting in six people being injured, with one sufferer requiring serious medical attention. The incident occurred at Simpang Empat Kalumpang when three vehicles attempted to avoid a scattered load of oil palm fruit on the road.

Chief Zainal Sinsin of Semporna Fire and Rescue Station reported the incident at 9.52am, finding an Isuzu D Max, a Toyota Hilux, and a Toyota Avanza entangled in the crash. All three vehicles were believed to have swerved to evade the fallen fruit, leading to the collision.

The lorry transporting the oil palm fruit was also involved in the accident. Three individuals – three men and four women – were present in the incident. Among the injuries, one man, the driver of the Isuzu D Max, sustained serious injuries after being trapped in his vehicle. Another victim experienced a heart complication, while the remaining four women sustained minor injuries and one man escaped uninjured.

Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) swiftly arrived on the scene, providing initial treatment to the seriously injured driver before transporting him to Semporna Hospital. The man suffering from heart complications was subsequently taken by ambulance to Tawau for further care. Two other victims were also sent to Semporna Hospital via ambulance, and the remaining two women were transported to the same facility by EMRS personnel.
