Iran insists on diplomacy after Trump rejects peace plan

Iran has once again emphasized that diplomacy is the only path to resolving its conflict with the US and Israel, following President Trump's rejection of a proposed peace plan. The proposal, unveiled last week by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during the United Nations General Assembly, called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and halting hostilities.

Araghchi insisted that Iran's conditions must be met before any attempt to reopen the strategic waterway. He asserted that only a negotiated resolution can extricate the two nations from their current impasse.

Trump, however, publicly dismissed the Iranian proposal, attributing Iran's pursuit of an agreement to their desperation stemming from heavy losses. At a White House briefing, Trump alleged that Iran was seeking to make a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz immediately because they were experiencing significant setbacks. Despite Trump's statements, Araghchi maintained that mediators in the US-Iran talks had not officially communicated an American rejection of the plan.

The Iranian diplomat stated that they are awaiting the final viewpoints from the mediators and will make a decision based on those. The US has been imposing an economic blockade on Iran with the aim of pressuring it to cease attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in a sharp decline in maritime traffic through the crucial waterway.
