The External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar addressed the UN General Assembly on Saturday, warning that the world is entering a period of weaponization of all aspects including finance, market access, supply chains, and technology. He emphasized that developing nations are facing a crisis of food, fuel, fertilizers and finance, with an impending El Nino expected to worsen the situation.

Jaishankar stated that the world is at a tipping point. Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) sought to present a united front as it faced scrutiny over its handling of special intensive revisions. In a meeting between the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and his commissioners, the ECI maintained that all decisions on these revisions were unanimous, clarified questions raised by the government and the opposition, and emphasized that any future digital initiatives would involve further discussions and checks.

In other news, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed support for India's candidacy for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, emphasizing the need for broader representation of Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
