On August 2nd, Ismail Lasim accepted the appointment to become the Chief Minister of Negeri Sembilan from Governor Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, as reported by Bernama. The former G25 civil servants are urging Ismail Lasim to take on ministerial roles to remove Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang Di Pertuan Besar. G25 stated that Ismail's position as Chief Minister cannot be maintained after he signed the proclamation requesting the removal of Tuanku Muhriz, followed by contradictory explanations about the document.

Ismail took the oath of office and pledged loyalty to the Chief Minister in front of Tuanku Muhriz on August 2nd, but he signed the proclamation on the following day. "He has lost his credibility due to his attempts to remove Tuanku Muhriz as the elected governor of the legitimate state government, besides his lack of decisiveness and refusal to explain who forced him to sign the proclamation, which he himself says is invalid and has no effect," the statement reads.

G25 added that Ismail's successive actions are unacceptably immoral, leading to a loss of moral standing to lead and govern. G25 emphasized that removing a government is a serious crime punishable by up to 40 years in prison under Section 121B of the Criminal Code, in addition to possible action under the State Security Act. The group called on the authorities to take strong action against those committing acts of treachery or sedition in the conflict involving the royal institutions of Negeri Sembilan.

FMT contacted the chief minister's office for a response. Ismail, who was also a Juasseh MP, earlier stated that he signed the proclamation due to pressure and had filed a police report. He also said the document was invalid because it did not follow the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan. However, a week later, the leader of Umno supported the statement released by 10 exco members of the state assembly, confirming the removal of Tuanku Muhriz as the governor.

As a response, the Attorney General's Chambers said that the Chief Minister and the exco of Negeri Sembilan do not have the authority to remove the Yang Di Pertuan Besar or declare the office vacant. Tuanku Muhriz subsequently canceled the appointment of the 10 exco members.
