Gunmen killed at least 27 people in two separate shootings in South Africa, police announced on Sunday. In the first incident, eight armed assailants stormed a bar west of Johannesburg on Saturday night, leaving 17 dead and 15 wounded. The victims were primarily male, with 13 males and four females among the fatalities. The attackers unleashed their assault on patrons outside the venue before moving indoors to continue their deadly spree.

Police have vowed to apprehend the suspects, who had reportedly torched two vehicles before fleeing the scene. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though it is believed to be a retaliation for an incident that occurred last month at the same bar.

A second shooting took place in a township near Cape Town early Sunday morning, where gunmen killed 10 people and injured 11 others at an entertainment venue. Social media footage showed revelers dancing and drinking before the gunfire erupted, causing pandemonium as people sought safety. Five victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining victims succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

No suspects have yet been apprehended in either case. The shootings occur in a country plagued by gun violence, with South Africa recording approximately 60 murders daily. Last week, gunmen stormed a house party in Durban, killing 11 people. South Africa has frequently relied on military assistance to combat violent crime, deploying troops to high-risk areas such as Johannesburg and the Cape Flats.

Despite these measures, gun-related violence remains a persistent threat, with 10 women reportedly killed in a single municipality in two months, and a suspect in custody for their deaths.
