Giants Zeroing in on These 2 Jaxson Dart Replacements: Report

When New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a knee injury and will miss the remainder of his sophomore season, there has been a flurry of speculation about who could replace him. Multiple reports suggest that only two names have emerged as the leading candidates: Justin Fields from the Kansas City Chiefs and free agent Jimmy Garoppolo. The Giants are reportedly focusing their attention on either of these two players.

Justin Fields has struggled to find a consistent spot on an NFL roster in the past. He had a brief stint with the New York Jets last season, which was marred by controversies and injuries. Currently, he is the backup to quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the Kansas City Chiefs. A starting role would undoubtedly appeal to Fields, but he may be better served as a backup for a while. With experience trying to be a starting quarterback for multiple teams, it would be advisable to give him more time in that role.

On the other hand, Jimmy Garoppolo possesses substantial NFL experience. However, much of his career has been spent playing on the bench. The 34-year-old hasn't started a season since 2022 with the San Francisco 49ers, and it's worth noting that he wasn't even the starter at the beginning of the 2023 season. Despite his experience, Garoppolo would need to demonstrate the ability to contribute to meaningful wins for the Giants.

In the meantime, New York will be relying on starting quarterback Jameis Winston, who was signed from the practice squad. Additionally, backup quarterback Jake Haener will serve as Winston's backup. Other potential replacements, such as Joe Flacco, Mac Jones, and Gardner Minshew, have been ruled out by various teams.
