Extractive firms urged to strengthen cyber defences as digital risks grow

Senior executives from Ghana's mining, oil, and gas sectors convened at the second Founder's Opera Soirée, hosted by cybersecurity firm e-Crime Bureau, to address the mounting cyber threats to their industries. The event, held in Accra on September 25, 2026, emphasized the growing interconnectivity between digital systems, industrial equipment, and physical facilities, highlighting potential risks such as cyberattacks, misuse of artificial intelligence, insider threats, industrial espionage, and supply chain vulnerabilities.

Bridget Otoo, a Presidential Staffer and media personality, moderated a discussion on data and system protection, leadership, crisis management, organizational resilience, and the necessity of building cybersecurity expertise across various organizational levels. The panel stressed that managing these risks necessitates collaboration among senior management, operational teams, human resources, security personnel, and external contractors.

Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, e-Crime Bureau's Founder and Executive Chairman, noted that the inclusion of an Italian opera provided executives with an unconventional platform to forge professional relationships. Italy's Ambassador to Ghana and Togo, Laura Ranalli, attended the event, acknowledging Dr Antwi-Boasiako's contributions to cybersecurity in Africa and Ghana-Italy relations.

Established in 2011, e-Crime Bureau offers cybersecurity consulting, digital forensics, investigations, training, and technology services.
