Extractive firms urged to strengthen cyber defences as digital risks grow

At a cybersecurity event in Accra on September 25, 2026, mining, oil, and gas executives from Ghana discussed the escalating risks of cyberattacks, fraud, and emerging technologies to their industries. The event, hosted by e-Crime Bureau and themed "Managing Cyber and Related Risks in the Extractive Sector," gathered leaders and professionals to explore how digital threats could impact safety, business continuity, and critical infrastructure.

The discussions centered on the growing interconnection between digital systems, industrial equipment, and physical facilities, with threats ranging from cyberattacks and AI misuse to insider threats and supply chain vulnerabilities. Bridget Otoo, a Presidential Staffer and media personality, moderated a panel addressing data protection, leadership, crisis management, and organizational resilience.

The speakers stressed the importance of a coordinated response involving senior management, operational teams, human resources, security personnel, and external contractors. Dr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, founder and executive chairman of e-Crime Bureau, noted that Italy's involvement, through Ambassador Laura Ranalli, underscored the event's role in fostering professional connections and cultural exchange between Ghana and Italy.
