Bangkok and three neighbouring provinces get two‑day holiday as Thailand ramps up flood response

Bangkok and three adjacent provinces in Thailand will observe a two-day holiday from September 28 to 29 as the government intensifies flood response measures following prolonged heavy rain. Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced the special public holidays for Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, and Samut Prakan during a Cabinet meeting at Government House, aiming to alleviate flood impact and enhance public mobility.

"The decision was made to ease flood-related hardships and facilitate travel," Anutin stated to the press.

Further rainfall is anticipated in Central and Eastern regions, while Bangkok is forecast to experience light to moderate rain. The Prime Minister directed provincial governors to continuously monitor the situation, ensure timely deployment of personnel, machinery, and vehicles, and establish temporary shelters, food supplies, and medical facilities for those affected by the floods.

In Bangkok, although rainfall has subsided since Saturday night, numerous areas remain submerged, with several major roads, especially in the eastern and northern sections near Don Mueang Airport and along Phetchaburi Road, remaining impassable. Some vehicles are currently stranded in flooded streets.
