Asian Games 2026: Malaysian men’s doubles medal hopes dashed as Goh Sze Fei-Izzuddin Rumsani fall to Chinese pair

AICHI, September 27 — Malaysian men's doubles badminton athletes Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani faced a heartbreaking end to their medal hopes when they were defeated 13-21, 17-21 by China's Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang at the Asian Games quarter-finals. The world No. 6 pair, representing Malaysia, were unable to secure a medal, ending their pursuit after Aaron Chia-Tee Kai Wun was eliminated in the second round by South Korea's Kim Won Ho-Seo Seo Jae.

Previously, Malaysia's badminton medal prospects rested on Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, who along with her partner, secured at least a bronze medal by reaching the women's doubles semi-finals. The world No. 5 Malaysian pair outplayed India's Gayatri Gopichand-Treesa Jolly in a 42-minute match to become the last representatives of Malaysia in individual badminton competition.

At the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou 2022, Aaron and Soh Wooi Yik managed to win Malaysia's sole badminton medal, securing a bronze in the men's doubles event.
