Was Tasia Fortune’s hanging staged? Chilling details out after Black woman found dead in Mississippi

Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old Black woman, was allegedly murdered in Mississippi during a drug-related conflict, according to testimony from Jackson police Detective Samuel Dukes. Fortune's body was later found hanging from a tree behind a vacant residence in the state's capital city. Dukes testified that Fortune put up a strong resistance against her attackers before dying, and the medical examiner's assessment characterized the hanging as a deliberately staged scene.

The cause of death has not been disclosed, and authorities have not explained their suspicion of the hanging being staged. Fortune's mother, Christy Spivey, confirmed that her daughter was already dead before being placed in the tree and expressed her desire for justice, emphasizing that she did not wish to see any innocent people go to jail.

Three people have been arrested in connection with the case, including Jarques Ratliff, 51, who pleaded not guilty and remains in prison without bail, Earnest Lloyd Jr, 25, and Eric Clark, 45, who has been charged with murder and is expected to make a court appearance on Monday.
