Mthombeni outlines SAPS strategy to accelerate women’s bodies probe

Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni has revealed the South African Police Service (SAPS) is implementing a strategic plan to expedite investigations into the discovery of women's bodies across the province. Speaking in Thembisa, Mthombeni announced the formation of a joint command group comprised of senior police leaders and crime intelligence officials who convene regularly to track the progress of these investigations.

The commissioner confirmed that the team consists of experienced investigators and has already made significant headway in one case. However, the investigation into the latest discovery remains at an early stage, with resources being concentrated to ensure a resolution. Mthombeni emphasized the dual approach being taken to address this pressing issue: "We are progressing, we are moving, and there is one case in which we have progressed, and we are moving on the leads.

But for this one, it’s still at the initial stage, where we are putting our resources together to ensure that we see this matter is resolved." The recent discovery of a woman's body in Thembisa South has reignited concerns about women's safety in Gauteng. The police stated that the body was found on Saturday morning near Mooifontein Cemetery, with the circumstances surrounding her death yet to be determined.

This incident has raised alarm among residents as the number of women's bodies found in Ekurhuleni over the past two months now stands at 10. The repeated occurrences have transformed once familiar parts of the community into scenes of anguish, with women now facing a heightened sense of uncertainty and fear when venturing outdoors.
